How We Clean Your Shower/Tub

Found in:Bathroom

The shower and tub area presents a unique challenge because it's a complex system of varied surfaces—glass, tile, grout, chrome, and caulk—each demanding a specific chemical approach. Compounding this, Denver's moderately hard water (~6–8 grains per gallon) accelerates the accumulation of soap scum and mineral deposits, making surfaces dull and prone to etching if not addressed correctly.

What we don't do

  • We never use abrasive pads or harsh, undiluted acids on glass shower doors, as these can permanently scratch the surface or etch the glass, creating a cloudy appearance that cannot be reversed. Similarly, we avoid abrasive cleaners on chrome fixtures, which can strip the finish and leave them dull or pitted. We also steer clear of strong bleach solutions on caulk and grout unless absolutely necessary, as prolonged exposure can degrade the material over time, leading to cracking or discoloration.

Why we do it this way

Simply scrubbing a shower doesn't work because different types of buildup require different chemical reactions to break down. For glass, we use a low-pH descaler to dissolve the stubborn hard water spots and soap scum that cling to the surface. Tile and grout, often harboring soap residue and mildew, respond best to an alkaline cleaner paired with a stiff brush for deep penetration into porous grout lines. Chrome fixtures, susceptible to mineral buildup, benefit from a wrap-and-dwell descaler that allows the solution to work effectively without aggressive scrubbing. For caulk lines, where mold often takes hold, we apply hydrogen peroxide to target and neutralize fungal growth. Finally, the drain isn't just wiped; we actively remove hair and debris to ensure proper function, preventing future clogs.
